PSA: Landing legs are for landing, not for standing. Retract that shit if you plan on staying a while.

Landing legs are probably the number one source of kraken attacks and general misery from surface outposts. And yet I still see them deployed in just about every outpost - post.

I initially made the mistake, and I'm sure most other players do, of thinking that landing legs are just the standard interface between my vessel and the ground. I thought that the belly of my hull would get scratched up by the surface or something. Every time my base station got loaded by physics, it would bounce around wildly and I'd think, "thank goodness for those landing legs... otherwise this thing would be in pieces!"

The truth, however, is that if you retract the landing legs and just let the whole thing sit on the ground, it never moves. Not even a little bit. You can dock to it, you can time warp, you can switch focus, and it stays steady as a rock through everything.

So for the sake of preserving your hard work and saving yourself some headaches, please - retract those legs!

I ran out of fuel going to Laythe and couldn't aim for any land so I decided not to decouple the heat shield so my probe would stay out of the water. I think it turned out well!

After several failed launches, stability tweaks and failed landings: I finally landed my first mobile base. Then I went over a large crater, fell and destroyed 2 of my wheels. Oh yeah, and I forgot to quicksave
